I was a film photographer before moving to digital but now I've come home. My digital gear, including my Pentax K10D outfit, has been locked away in a cupboard and I've been shooting nothing but film for a couple of months. And I'm loving it.

If you've followed this blog for a while, you'll maybe remember that I have a big compatibility problem with the camera and this lens. I have to go into debug mode and dial in something like +175 to get the combination to focus properly. A four day blur that mostly passed in the type of weather we could have got for nothing here in Carnoustie! The trip began with the two of us awake for well over 20 hours - courtesy of a 6.50 a.m. flight from Prestwick to Beauvais - and finished in a similar manner, finally ending at 3.30 a.m. on Friday morning when we crawled into bed. This is quick and dirty test that was done for no other reason than my own curiosity. However, I was quite impressed so I thought I'd share it. The *ist DL, with the 40mm f2.8 attached, was set to ISO 1600 - a sensitivity level that I normally wouldn't think of using on the K10D.The unprocessed shot, taken at f2.8, is at the very top and shows the results straight out of the camera. It's not so much from a quality point of view as there's virtually no noise at 100 ISO with the K1D and the new models should be even better.
